Teacher Practicum: A Cueing Deep Dive

A few years ago I listened to a recording of myself teaching and then promptly died. But, of course, it was one of the best things I ever did. When it comes down to it the yoga teacher’s job is to deliver a monolog; we do all these great trainings—anatomy, sequencing, alignment, philosophy—and here’s an opportunity to study HOW we communicate the things we’ve learned. (Don’t worry there won’t be any recordings), but in this weekend practicum we’ll teach and listen to each other teach, and then celebrate and refine some details. Active vs. passive verbs, descriptive clauses, what/how/why cues, summary vs. detail, declarative statements, narrative arcs—let’s consider the craft of teaching, in terms of language and quality cueing. It’ll be supportive and fun and you’ll leave a stronger teacher.
